FULL WOMEN’S EQUALITY

On this day two years ago, the Commonwealth of Virginia ratified the Equal Rights Amendment. A two-year waiting period was part of the original mandate. The day has now arrived the national archivist should be publishing the 28th Amendment as part of the U.S. Constitution.

Equal Rights Amendment activists from across the country have gathered in front of the White House, and after rousing speeches, supporters of all ages who comprise numerous ethnic and identifiable backgrounds will walk to the U.S. Department of Justice. Millions throughout our country will participate online as they join the events of the day virtually.

President Biden has issued an official statement on the Equal Rights Amendment:

“Today, as the House announces a resolution on the Equal Rights Amendment, I once again want to express my support for the ERA loudly and clearly. I have been a supporter of the ERA ever since I first ran for the Senate as a 29-year-old. We must recognize the clear will of the American people and definitively enshrine the principle of gender equality in the Constitution.  It is long past time that we all doubt the rest. I am calling on Congress to act immediately to pass a resolution recognizing ratification of the ERA. As the recently published Office of Legal Counsel memorandum makes clear, there is nothing standing in Congress’s way from doing so. No one should be discriminated against based on the sex and as a nation, must stand up for Full Women’s Equality.”

The National Federation of Democratic Women stand firm in our unwavering support of the Three State Strategy that delivered the final ratification of the 38th state.  We thank President Joe Biden for his solid support and we thank those Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress who have pressed forward with the priority Full Equality for Women.
